Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch tart pan with butter or non-stick spray.
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, butter, sugar, and salt. Using a pastry blender, cut the butter into the flour until it looks like small pebbles.
Press the mixture into the bottom and up the sides of the tart pan. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Place the thinly sliced apples in a large bowl and sprinkle with the cinnamon mixture. Toss to coat the apples.
Arrange the apples in a circular pattern in the tart pan, overlapping the slices slightly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the apples are soft and golden.
