Summer is here and it’s time to start grilling! I always love experimenting with new recipes and flavors and this one is no exception. I was inspired by the idea of grilling watermelon and wanted to see what kind of flavor it would lend to a margarita. I decided to give it a try and the results were delicious!
I started by preheating the grill to medium-high heat and then slicing the watermelon into wedges. I added a bit of lime juice, cayenne pepper, and agave syrup to the watermelon and then placed the wedges on the grill. After grilling for a few minutes, I removed them from the heat and let them cool.
To make the margarita, I combined the grilled watermelon with tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice in a blender and blended until smooth. I rimmed a glass with a mixture of cayenne pepper and salt, added a few slices of grilled watermelon, and poured the margarita into the glass. This spicy grilled watermelon margarita was such a hit in my family – it was the perfect summer drink!
For an extra sweet and spicy kick, add a tablespoon of honey or agave syrup to the watermelon before grilling. If you prefer a milder flavor, reduce the cayenne pepper to 1/2 teaspoon. You can also substitute the orange liqueur with another liqueur of your choice, such as triple sec or Cointreau.
