For a vegan version: Substitute the butter with a vegan-friendly alternative, such as coconut oil or vegan margarine. Use a flax egg instead of a regular egg, and replace the chopped walnuts with a vegan-friendly alternative, such as chopped peanuts or almonds.
For a gluten-free version: Use a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend in place of the all-purpose flour, and make sure all other ingredients are certified gluten-free.
